9th Annual Wishes On Wheels Drives in $90,000, Continues to be Connecticut Chapter's Largest Community FundraiserOctober 1st, 2008. On Sunday, September 21st, 2008, hundreds of truck drivers, volunteers and wish families geared up for the 9th Annual “Wishes On Wheels” Truck Convoy at the FedEx Ground Facility in Willington, raising $90,000 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Connecticut. It continues to be the largest community fundraising event in the Connecticut Chapter’s history year after year.
A total of 455 trucks, including 18-wheelers, fire trucks, lumber trailers and FedEx & UPS delivery trucks, came together to take the trip down I-84 to make wishes come true for local children facing life-threatening medical conditions.
Every year, truck drivers and wish families ride together to make “Wishes On Wheels” one very unique and exciting event. As local Make-A-Wish® kids arrived, they selected the truck they wished to ride shotgun in during the convoy or searched for their favorite truck from previous years. “Hats, Hats, Hats” was the event theme for this year’s convoy. Every style of hat was worn by truck drivers and wish families!
“Wishes On Wheels” is an annual event entirely run by a dedicated volunteer committee. These passionate and hard-working individuals help make wishes come true for local children every September.
