Rockin' Radiothon with WCCC 106.9's "Sebastian in the Morning" Helps Make Connecticut Wishes Come True Once Again!

February 23rd, 2009.

Once again, Hartford’s “The Rock” 106.9 WCCC brought in over $10,000 to make wishes come true for Connecticut children through its annual December Radiothon on the “Sebastian in the Morning” show.

Last week, “The Rock” welcomed Kim Smith , the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Connecticut ’s Director of External Events, as well as local “wish mom ” Kelly Takacs, to be special guests on the radio show. Kim spoke about the generosity of WCCC year after year in raising funds to grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. Kelly, mom of 3-year-old “wish kid” Ethan of Fairfield, shared her family’s incredible wish experience on-air (see below).

In addition to recognizing the outstanding efforts of WCCC, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® would like to extend a huge thank-you to Anderson Jewelers of East Hartford, who donated 10 percent of Pandora Jewelry sales to the Connecticut Chapter in conjunction with the Radiothon. Together, WCCC and Anderson Jewelers raised funds to “adopt” Ethan’s magical Disney World wish.

Ethan’s mom said: “We had the most unbelievable time and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Ethan was the brightest we have ever seen him on the trip, and one month later, we still about talk the trip each and every day!...To see how he lit up the first time he met Mickey Mouse is a mom ent I will carry with me forever. Ethan got to meet all of his favorite Disney characters, including Jack Sparrow, Peter Pan, and of course, the members of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! We were able to take him on any attraction he wanted to go on, including Pirates of the Caribbean , despite his physical limitations. The staff of the Walt Disney World Resort could not have treated us better…Give Kids the World is a truly remarkable place, as well. We felt so at home there, and their staff and volunteers go above and beyond for their guests. Ethan just loved walking around the Village and frequently went on the carousel, which was his favorite! I still cannot believe there are such generous people in the world and we will not forget any of you! This trip was the best thing to happen to our family. It not only was wonderful to see my little boy get to experience visiting Walt Disney World, but it made my husband and I realize that we CAN dream big for Ethan and make it happen!”
